Sunbury, United Kingdom — March 23, 2010 — GXS™, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that it has completed a move to a new headquarters facility in Gaithersburg, Md. The new facility reflects GXS’ commitment to remain in the Greater Washington D.C. area and to ensure environmentally sustainable operations. By headquartering in the Washington area, GXS has access to an exceptionally strong base of knowledgeable and skilled IT workers in an area that is economically vibrant. In fact, according to the United States Department of labour, the I-270 corridor, where the new GXS facility is located, has the nation’s lowest unemployment rate among large metro areas.1 The new facility reflects GXS’ role as an e-commerce innovator and is a central location for GXS’ global base of employees and customers.
The drivers and benefits behind GXS’ move to a new facility were multi-fold. They included significant operational cost-savings; a more environmentally sustainable office environment and a facility that fosters greater interaction among departments and employees. The move has greatly reduced GXS’ real estate costs, freeing up that capital for investment in innovation and customer-facing services.
“We are thrilled about our new headquarters building and are very proud of the effort we made, in partnership with the builders and building management, to ensure its environmental sustainability,” said Bob Segert, president and CEO of GXS. “GXS is a leading IT services company with tremendous prospects for growth and we needed a headquarters that reflected those prospects as well as our culture of collabouration and innovation. Not only is our new building sustainable, but it also significantly reduces GXS’ operating costs and ensures we have a facility that encourages greater interaction between employees and departments as well as with our partners and customers.”
GXS is pursuing Silver LEED certification for its new headquarters location via the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is an internationally-recognised green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building project was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. To meet its sustainability goals, GXS located its office within walking distance to restaurants and amenities, incorporated water reducing fixtures and purchased Energy Star equipment. To provide healthier work environments, GXS specified low VOC paints, adhesives and furniture and incorporated indoor air quality controls during the construction process. In addition to specifying materials with recycled content for the new construction, GXS also recycled more than 50 percent of the waste generated by the construction process.
GXS’ new headquarters address is 9711 Washingtonian Boulevard, Gaithersburg, Md. 20878.
