Sunbury, United Kingdom — November 5, 2009 — GXSTM, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, and GNS, a leading e-commerce service provider in North Africa, today announced a joint venture to build a new retail B2B hub, the Morocco Retail eXchange, in Morocco and French-speaking North Africa. Together, the two companies will enable five retailers and 800 suppliers in the region to conduct electronic trading and gain increased visibility of the regional supply chain. GNS has signed a five-year agreement to utilise GXS Trading Grid® as the platform for the exchange.
GNS, part of the $10 billion BMCE Bank group, estimates that approximately 90 percent of orders and invoices in the region are manually processed. GNS is currently working with the main retailers and suppliers in the region to build participation in the Morocco Retail eXchange. GNS has utilised GXS Trading Grid services for more than 10 years to provide B2B services to customs and ports authorities as well as financial institutions in Morocco.
“The retail industry represents around 12 percent of Morocco’s GDP and is growing in prominence,” commented Jamal Medoun, general manager for GNS. “The emergence of a young, city-based middle class with a growing appetite for global brands is impacting the way the retail sector operates in Morocco. The retail sector needs to respond and adapt with smart technology initiatives and meet the new opportunities with vision and purpose.”
The Morocco Retail Exchange will utilise GXS Active Orders, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) visibility application, to consolidate all order-related information into a central repository, delivering powerful business process automation and event monitoring tools. Part of GXS Trading Grid suite of services, GXS Active Orders automates routine transactions and centralises the management of order information in a 100 percent paper-free environment. The service includes:
- Shared view of orders, inventory, logistics and payment data between buyers and suppliers;
- Supply chain event monitoring with more than 100 configurable business rules, event notifications and exception alerts; and
- Supplier performance management and scorecarding for key metrics such as fill rate, invoice accuracy and delivery punctuality.
GXS Active Orders gives North Africa and the Morocco Retail eXchange one of the most advanced supply chain infrastructures available today.
“As global brands in the food & beverage, apparel and footwear and consumer packaged goods segment are pushing into North Africa, they will bring best practices in supply chain and B2B e-commerce to the region. Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian retailers that are prepared to embrace these international best practices will be best positioned to optimise sales of these new brands and products,” said Jon Keating, GXS vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “As the only truly global provider of B2B e-commerce services, GXS is uniquely qualified to help GNS and its customers to quickly transform their supply chains to maximise the emerging market opportunity.”
