Sunbury, United Kingdom — June 19, 2009 — GXS™, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that Denise Oakley, the company’s International Marketing Director, has been elected Vice-Chair of the EDIFICE industry association. EDIFICE is the European user group for the Electronics Industry that supports the adoption and promotion of B2B standards within the industry. This election of Oakley marks the first time in the organisation’s 23 year history that a vendor member has been named to the EDIFICE board.
Members of EDIFICE include computing, electronics and telecommunications companies as well as the vendors that serve them. The association drives and enables global standardised B2B adoption in Europe through best practices, information sharing and influencing of standards development. The European electronics industry adopted UN/EDIFACT as the global standard for traditional EDI applications and RosettaNet for XML-based B2B transactions.
“We are delighted that Denise Oakley is joining the EDIFICE board as she has a wealth of experience and knowledge of B2B e-commerce in the electronics industry and works extensively with companies throughout EMEA and Asia-Pacific,” said Boudewijn Janssen, EDIFICE chairman and eBusiness manager at Amkor Technology. “She brings insight into key trends in standards adoption combined with a track record of delivering cost-effective marketing strategies in support of business goals.”
GXS is very active in the high tech and electronics industries and has sponsored a number of EDIFICE Plenaries in the last five years. GXS will also be sponsoring the forthcoming 109th Plenary entitled B2B Past, Present and Future on October 28 and 29 in Amstelveen, Netherlands.
In describing her objectives as a member of the EDIFICE Board, Oakley said “My goals are to increase membership via greater awareness and to help make EDIFICE the leading voice in B2B for European high tech companies. We can do this through effective marketing promoting EDIFICE’s views and opinions to the appropriate stakeholders.”
To remain competitive today, discrete manufacturing and high technology companies must make B2B communications compatible with multiple technology standards (e.g., EDI, OAGi, RosettaNet, etc.). GXS insulates companies from the technology churn and the expense of supporting all the standards by translating documents into the recipient’s preferred format. This enables companies to focus on core business operations while giving them the ability to trade seamlessly with any supplier or customer. In addition, technology OEMs are pressuring discrete manufacturing and high tech companies to achieve demand-driven supply chains with near real-time decision making capabilities. GXS enables companies to automate information and processes exchanges and optimise internal processes. As a result, companies reduce time to market and expenses, manage inventory liability and can support build-to-order operations. Manufacturing and high technology companies that rely on GXS to power their demand-driven supply chains include BSteel, Electrolux, Henkel, InFocus, OSRAM SYLVANIA and Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.).
