In some cases, Yanmar may need to transfer products in a location with overstocks to locations with shortages. To achieve this, visibility throughout the transportation process is crucial. Previously, Yanmar had to manage more than a hundred freight forwarders worldwide on its own, a complex and time-intensive undertaking. Yanmar realised that it needed a global logistics visibility solution to manage this process and gain data insight into accurate logistics and inventory data.

To construct this system in-house, Yanmar forecasted it would take several months to two years to build and connect with each freight delivery company’s network. However, with GXS Trading Grid, the connection to each company took six months from start to finish. In addition, since there is no need to hire specialised staff for the project, the time and cost associated with development, implementation, operation and maintenance was significantly less.
