GXS Unveils Product Information Manager 8.0 to Strengthen Customer Master Data Management Initiatives

Sunbury, United Kingdom — February 14, 2007 — GXS™, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced the commercial availability of GXS Product Information Manager (PIM) 8.0. GXS PIM solutions are already in use by more than 50 retailers and suppliers. The new versions of GXS PIM meet demands to support product-related master data and internal data collabouration. Specifically, the new enhancements include business process management functionality to support greater visibility and control over workflow processes; management of master data associated with products or product categories; and improved flexibility for data sharing across internal channels and for collabouration with trading partners.

As part of an overall master data management (MDM) strategy, companies can use PIM 8.0’s capabilities to create a central repository for all product data and can consolidate, manage and publish product data across all internal systems and out to trading partners. Some of the enhancements to GXS PIM solutions include:

The ability to manage master data associated with products including traditional item attributes such as packaging, weights and logistical information, as well as extended attributes such as pricing, promotions, recipes, formulas, warranty and safety information;
Support for workflow reporting, monitoring and escalations to identify bottlenecks that result in costly delays to new product introductions and trade promotion rollouts;
Mass approval and update capabilities to save data entry time, in the event of regulatory changes, brand consolidation or merger activity;
New capabilities for data transformations and syndication to improve internal data alignment and collabouration with trading partners within or outside of the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN); and
A new architecture that improves overall performance, reliability and scalability and facilitates interoperability with in-house systems through the use of web services.

These enhancements are available now and are the in process of being deployed by multiple retailers and suppliers.
